Jesse White, former Illinois Secretary of State, has been selected as the recipient of the 2023 Paul Simon-Edgar Statemanship Award. The annual award is presented to an elected Illinois government official who has served their community with civility, courage, and bipartisanship.
White served in the Illinois House of Representatives as Secretary of State from 1999 to 2023.
“I first met Secretary White in the 1970s when we were both junior members of the Illinois General Assembly,” Edgar said. “Jesse has always been modest, gracious and committed to working with members of both parties to solve problems.”
Nominations for the Simon-Edgar award open in February of each year, with the winner being presented in August.
